Biography

Jonathan Mohnani has forever been a musician, starting at the age of 6 with piano forte and singing. Yearly school performances soon developed into choral directing and classical voice training. He has appeared in several operatic roles of note: the title role Gianni Schicci, Tonio in Pagliacci, Coppélius in The Tales of Hoffmann, Peter in Hansel and Gretel, and comic operas, Boatswain in H.M.S. Pinafore, the title role in The Mikado and The Pirate King in The Pirates of Penzance. He has performed, in concert, numbers from Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, South Pacific, Show Boat, Fiddler on the Roof and Oliver to name a few. Whilst enjoying performing on the island and being the vocal coach to the winners of the Malta Junior Eurovision, Jonathan’s passion led him to leave Malta and part with his medical career. He ventured as the production singer with Costa Crociere which took him to far-off destinations. After a couple of seasons, he established himself as a hotel cabaret singer in Cyprus and later, Spain, performing nightly shows for several years. During this time, Jonathan delved into the world of Ballroom and Latin Dance, with a keen interest in Caribbean Dance. At present, he forms part of Malta’s national choir, KorMalta, and has recently taken part in Otello at the Manoel Theatre and the first Maltese opera film, Blat. He has just joyously embarked on a new venture, Flamenco dancing.
